Where pigeons settle in Pune homes
- The dry balcony. Behind the washing machine, on top of the water purifier, on ledges above the drying rods.
- AC brackets. The gap between the outdoor unit and the wall is a classic nesting spot on every floor.
- Duct shafts. In housing societies and towers alike, the shaft beside bathrooms fills with nests and droppings.
- Window chajjas. The concrete sunshades above windows on older society buildings in Kothrud, Karve Nagar and Aundh.
- Terrace corners and water tank stands on row houses and bungalows.
Pune conditions
Pune’s heavy, steady monsoon from June to September is hard on fittings. Weeks of rain rust ordinary hooks and stain the paint below them, so we use stainless-steel hooks and anchors only. In April and May, strong sun on west-facing walls makes plain plastic nets brittle, so we use UV-stabilised HDPE or nylon mesh.
Housing societies often have rules about what can be seen from outside. Transparent nets on the outer edge of the opening, or just inside the railing line, usually meet them.
How the net is fitted
- We look for every place the birds land and nest, not just the obvious one.
- Each opening is measured and the wall surface checked.
- Old nests and droppings are cleared from the fixing points.
- Stainless hooks go in along the edges at close spacing.
- A border rope or coated wire is tensioned around the opening.
- The net is tied to the border at short intervals, with extra care at corners, where poor installations let birds back in.
Patterns across Pune
In the western towers of Hinjewadi, Wakad, Baner and Balewadi, birds go for upper-floor AC brackets and the tops of long shafts. In older societies in Kothrud, Karve Nagar and Bibwewadi, chajjas, ventilators and dry balconies are the trouble spots. In eastern and south-eastern townships around Kharadi, Hadapsar and Undri, newly occupied buildings attract pigeons before residents notice, so netting early pays off.
Before the visit
Count how many spots the birds are using and send a photo of each on WhatsApp. If your society has rules on nets, share them so we bring the right colour.
After installation
Brush or rinse the net every few weeks in the dry months. Before the monsoon, check the corners; after heavy storms, look again.
