Drying clothes in Pune’s seasons
Summer (March to May). Clothes dry in an hour on a sunny balcony, but colours fade. Drying in the shade under the balcony ceiling protects them.
Monsoon (June to September). Pune’s long, steady rains mean outdoor drying is unreliable for weeks at a time. Clothes left on chairs and doors make rooms damp. A rack in a covered, ventilated dry balcony keeps clothes airing and out of the rain.
Winter (November to February). Cool, dry weather and gentle sun make this the easiest season.
The dry balcony
Most Pune flats have a dry balcony beside the kitchen for the washing machine and drying clothes. It is the natural place for a cloth hanger, and often also the place pigeons choose. Fitting a hanger and a pigeon net together in the dry balcony is a common and sensible combination.
Types we install
- Ceiling cloth hangers: stainless rods on pulleys. Ceiling cloth hangers in Pune.
- Wall-mounted hangers: folding arms for false or high ceilings. Wall mounted cloth hangers in Pune.
- Fixed rods for row house and bungalow terraces.
Materials and installation
We use stainless-steel rods, rust-resistant brackets and good rope for pulley systems. We check the ceiling or wall, agree the type and size, fix the brackets level and clear of lights and doors, assemble the system and test it.
Sizing for your household
| Household | Typical choice |
|---|---|
| One or two people | Compact ceiling rack or one wall unit |
| Family of three or four | Ceiling rack with four to six rods |
| Larger family | Ceiling rack plus a wall unit, or a terrace rod system |
Before the visit
Tell us roughly how much washing you do in a week and send a photo of the dry balcony, including the ceiling.
Care
Wipe rods occasionally, check pulley ropes every few months and spread heavy items like bedsheets across several rods.

Racks for row house terraces
Row houses in Pune often have a terrace partly covered by a sheet or polycarbonate roof. Fixed rods under that cover give a sheltered drying area that works even during the monsoon, and a safety net along the parapet keeps children safe while clothes are being hung. If your terrace is shared between two families, we can size the rods so each has enough space.
Combining racks
Larger households often pair a ceiling rack in the dry balcony with a small wall rack in the bathroom for towels and baby clothes.
