Pune homes that need a wall rack
- Row houses where washing is dried on the terrace under a sheet or polycarbonate roof
- Bungalows with tall, sloping roofs over the utility yard
- Flats with false ceilings in the dry balcony, which can’t carry wet laundry
- Narrow utility passages in older society flats
In each case, a rack that fixes to the wall and folds flat when not in use is the practical answer.
Choosing the wall
The best wall gets a breeze, has nothing behind it that a drill could damage, and leaves room to pass when the rack is open. During Pune’s monsoon, airflow matters more than sun, so a wall near an opening usually works best. Walls shared with a bathroom or kitchen often carry water lines, so we check before drilling.
Rack styles
| Style | Best for |
|---|---|
| Folding arms with rods | Terraces and balconies where you dry a full wash |
| Telescopic rods | Narrow passages |
| Small fold-down units | Bathrooms and corners |
| Fixed rods on brackets | Terraces where the rack can stay open |
Materials
Stainless or coated steel rods, strong hinges and anchors chosen for the wall. Hollow blocks need special fixings or a different wall.
Fitting it
We check the wall and what is behind it, agree the model and height, mark and level the brackets, fix them, mount the rack and test it open, closed and loaded.
Row house terraces
Many Pune row houses have a terrace partly covered by a sheet roof, used for drying clothes and storing the water tank. A wall rack on the staircase wall or parapet under the sheet gives a sheltered drying spot that works through the monsoon, without needing anything fixed to the sheet itself.
Combining racks
Larger households often pair a small wall rack beside the washing machine, for towels and small items, with a ceiling rack or terrace rods for the main wash.
Care
Fold it gently, wipe the rods now and then and put a little light oil on a stiff hinge. Don’t lean on it or hang heavy bags from it.

Before the visit
Choose one or two walls you would like to use and check what is on the other side, for example a bathroom or kitchen with water pipes. Send a photo of the wall and the space in front of it, so we can suggest a model that leaves room to walk past when it is open.
