A child’s-eye survey
When we visit, we look at the home from a toddler’s height:
- Anything to climb? Plant stands, chairs, AC units and shoe racks near the parapet or window.
- Any gap? Under the railing, between bars, beside the balcony.
- Can they lean out? Windows that open wide beside beds and sofas.
- Stairs? Open sides in row houses, duplexes and villas.
Spot a second risky gap and we’ll tell you, even if it wasn’t why you called.
Where we fit them in Pune
- Balconies in societies and towers
- Windows, including sliding windows without grills
- Staircases in row houses, bungalows and duplex flats
- Terraces where children play
- Mezzanines overlooking double-height halls
Materials
| Part | Our choice for homes with children |
|---|---|
| Net | Thick UV-stabilised nylon or HDPE; knotless if you prefer |
| Mesh | Smaller than a standard safety net, so feet find no foothold |
| Anchors | Stainless-steel eye bolts at close spacing |
| Ties | On the outer side, away from small hands |
How we install
- Walk through the home and note every risk.
- Measure each opening, including gaps down to floor level.
- Fix anchors close together.
- Tension the border so the net cannot be pushed outward.
- Lace the net with extra ties at corners and the bottom edge.
- Close railing gaps and side openings.
- Push on the net at a toddler’s height, then walk you through what to look for later.
Common situations in Pune homes
Row houses. The internal staircase is often the biggest risk, open on one side over two or three floors. We net the full length.
Towers with glass railings. The gap between the glass and the floor is easy to miss. We close it.
Monsoon months. Children spend more time indoors during the long rains, often near balcony doors and windows. It is a good time to make sure every opening is secure.
Monthly check
Look for loose ties at the corners and bottom edge, check that no furniture has been moved against the net, and look for cut or picked threads.
Our children safety nets page has the full details, and the guide on how to childproof a balcony is a useful read too.
Before the visit
Note your child’s age and the rooms they spend most time in. If your home is a row house, tell us how many floors the staircase covers. Clear chairs and stands from the balcony edge and windows beforehand, so we can reach and measure all of it.
Combining nets and grills
Some families choose invisible grills for the main balcony, for their long life, and child safety nets for stair sides and railing gaps, where a net is easier to fit. We can plan both in the same visit.
