Our service in Chennai
Much of Chennai now lives in apartment buildings. A family that moves into a flat on the fifth or tenth floor often wants the balcony made safe for a small child, or finds pigeons nesting behind the AC unit within weeks of moving in. Independent houses have their own weak spots: the open staircase, the terrace, the car porch or a window above the kitchen sink is usually where pigeons get in.
We handle the whole job ourselves: we look at the site, advise on the right product, fit it and show you how to look after it. You can call or WhatsApp us and talk directly to the person who will plan your installation.
What makes Chennai different
Sea air and corrosion
Chennai runs along the Bay of Bengal, and on most days the wind carries salt inland. Homes in coastal areas such as Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur and along the ECR feel this most, but humidity and salt affect metal fittings across the city. Ordinary iron hooks and cheap steel wire start to rust within months, and the rust stains walls and weakens the fitting. For that reason we use stainless-steel hooks and anchors on every Chennai job, and SS 316 marine-grade cable for invisible grills, the same grade of steel used on boats and coastal structures.
Strong sun
For much of the year, west- and south-facing balconies in Chennai get hours of direct sun. Ordinary plastic netting turns brittle under that kind of exposure. We use UV-stabilised HDPE and nylon nets, which are made to resist sun damage, and we suggest colours and mesh types that hold up well on sunny facades.
Monsoon and cyclones
Most of Chennai’s rain falls during the northeast monsoon between October and December, and the city has faced severe cyclones, such as Vardah in 2016 and Michaung in 2023. Wind loads on a high balcony can be much stronger than on the ground. We space anchors closely and tension nets and grill cables firmly so they stay flat in strong wind. After any major storm we recommend a quick check of all fittings.
Building types
Chennai has a wide mix of buildings. Newer high-rise towers and gated communities line OMR, GST Road and the western suburbs, with deep balconies, duct shafts and utility areas. Older neighbourhoods such as Mylapore, T. Nagar and Kilpauk have more independent houses and small apartment blocks with open terraces and staircases. Each needs a different approach. Tall towers need strong anchoring and careful work at height. Older buildings often need fittings adapted to uneven walls or grills that are already there.
Pigeons and other animals
Pigeons are the most widespread bird problem in Chennai homes. They roost on sunshades, nest in duct areas and behind AC outdoor units, and are found in almost every part of the city. Monkey problems are not common in most of Chennai. Where monkeys do visit, we can fit stronger monkey safety nets.
