Mysuru homes that suit a wall rack
- Roofs under a sheet, where the sheet keeps off rain but can’t carry a rack.
- Tall back yards in independent houses.
- Older homes with high ceilings, where a pulley rack would need very long ropes.
- Narrow passages beside the house.
- Flats with false ceilings in the utility area.
Choosing the wall
Look for a wall with some breeze, so clothes dry during the monsoons, and with nothing behind it that a drill could damage. Kitchen and bathroom walls usually have water lines; we check first. Older homes may have thick stone or brick walls, which take anchors well.
Styles
- Swing-out arms with several rods for a full wash
- Pull-out rods for narrow passages
- Small fold-down frames for towels
- Fixed brackets for roofs where the rack can stay open
Fixings
Rods are stainless or coated steel. Brick, stone and concrete take standard anchors; hollow blocks need special fixings.
Fitting
We confirm the wall, agree the style and height, mark and level the brackets, fix them, hang the rack and test it open, shut and loaded.
Under the roof sheet
On many Mysuru roofs, part of the terrace is covered with a sheet for shelter. A wall rack on the staircase-room wall or the parapet beneath it gives a dry spot for washing even on rainy days.
Older relatives
A wall rack at shoulder height opens with one hand, with no ropes or stretching, which makes it a good choice for grandparents who do the washing.
Care
Close it gently, wipe the rods and oil a stiff hinge. Don’t lean on it.

Two racks for larger households
Joint families often fit one wall rack under the roof sheet for the main wash and a small one in a bathroom or passage for towels and children’s clothes. That spreads drying across two places and keeps both tidy.
Before we come
Choose one or two walls you’d like to use and check what is behind them, especially kitchens and bathrooms with pipes. A photo of the wall and the space in front of it helps us suggest a size.
Back yards
Many Mysuru houses have a back yard beside the kitchen where washing is done. A wall rack on a sunny yard wall keeps drying close to the washing area, so wet clothes don’t have to be carried upstairs.
