Why Visakhapatnam balconies need extra care
Balconies here face two challenges: height and wind. Many families live in towers along the coast and in Madhurawada and MVP Colony, and sea winds hit upper floors hard. Children climb on chairs and plant stands near the railing, and pets jump onto ledges to watch the sea. A balcony safety net closes the space from parapet to slab.
What we check
- railing type: glass, steel or concrete
- gaps under or between railing bars
- side openings on corner balconies
- which way the balcony faces, and how exposed it is to sea wind
Materials
| Part | For sheltered balconies | For sea-facing balconies |
|---|---|---|
| Net | Thick UV-stabilised twine | Thick UV-stabilised twine |
| Border | Heavy rope | Stainless-steel wire rope |
| Anchors | Stainless eye bolts | Stainless eye bolts, closer spacing |
| Colour | Transparent or black | Transparent, to keep the view |
Installation
- Measure the balcony face, side openings and railing gaps.
- Mark anchor points along the slab edge, walls and parapet.
- Fix stainless eye bolts.
- Thread and tension the border.
- Lace the net with extra ties at corners.
- Cover railing gaps down to the floor.
- Press along the net at child height.
Sea views
Most families on sea-facing balconies want the view kept. A transparent net, tightly tensioned, is barely visible from inside once you get used to it. If you want an even cleaner look and longer life, compare with balcony invisible grills.
After storms
Check the corners and anchors after any severe storm, and rinse the net with fresh water every few weeks to wash off salt.
Before we come
Move chairs and plant stands away from the railing and tell us which way the balcony faces.

Families on the move
Visakhapatnam has many families who move with work, including those connected to the port, the navy and the IT parks. A balcony safety net suits a rented flat well: it is affordable, quick to fit and comes down cleanly when you move, leaving only small holes. Ask the owner first; most agree because it protects their property.
Corner balconies
Many newer flats in Madhurawada and PM Palem have balconies that wrap around a corner. Each open face gets its own section of net, joined at the corner so there is no gap.
Net or grill?
A net is quicker and costs less; a grill lasts longer on the coast and looks neater. Families staying long-term often choose grills; those renting often choose nets.
