Is this for you?
If you dry clothes under a roof sheet with nothing to hang them on, have a passage too narrow for a floor stand, a false ceiling in the utility area or towels with nowhere to dry, a wall rack is the answer.
A typical job, start to finish
You pick one or two walls and send a photo of each, with the space in front of it.
We check the wall and what’s behind it, and agree the style and height with you.
We fit and test. Brackets are marked, levelled and fixed. The rack goes on and is tested open, shut and fully loaded.
Which space needs what?
Under a roof sheet, a rack on the staircase-room wall gives a covered spot. In an open yard, a rack on the yard wall keeps drying next to the washing. In a narrow passage, pull-out rods slide back flat. In a bathroom, a small fold-down frame dries towels.
Which style?
Swing-out arms take a full family wash. Pull-out rods suit tight spaces. A fold-down frame suits towels. Fixed brackets suit roofs where washing hangs every day.
In the humid months
Choose a wall with some airflow, so clothes dry in damp weather. Rods and hinges are stainless or coated steel.
Looking after it
Close it gently, wipe the rods and oil a stiff hinge. Don’t lean on it or use it as a step.
Questions we hear in Tenali
“What height?” High enough that long clothes clear the floor, low enough for everyone to reach. “Hollow-block wall?” Yes, with special fixings.
See cloth hangers in Tenali for every option, or our wall mounted cloth hangers page.
Yards beside the kitchen
Many Tenali houses have a small open yard where clothes are washed. A rack on the yard wall keeps drying right where the washing happens and folds back against the wall when you need the space.
Several racks
Families often fit one rack in the yard for clothes and a small fold-down frame in the bathroom for towels, in the same visit.
What to tell us when you call
Which wall you’re thinking of, what it’s made of if you know, what’s on the other side and how much washing you dry. A photo of the wall and the space in front of it is usually enough for us to suggest a style.
Height
Set the top bracket a little above shoulder height, so long clothes clear the floor and everyone can reach.
Under the roof sheet
On many Tenali roofs, the sheet over the stair head or drying area is held on light supports that shouldn’t carry extra weight. We fix the rack to the solid wall beneath instead, so it’s covered from the rain without loading the sheet.
