When Guntur homes need a monkey net
Most Guntur residents never deal with monkeys. Occasionally, though, a troop moves through an area with tall trees or near a temple, and homes there find monkeys on their roofs. Signs you need protection:
- monkeys on the parapet or compound wall
- fruit, vegetables or plants taken from the roof or balcony
- kitchen windows pushed open
- damaged water tank lids or pipes
- clothes pulled off the line
If monkeys visit once and find nothing, they usually move on. If they find food, they return.
What we fit
- Kitchen windows and utility areas
- Roof terraces, especially around the water tank and clothes line
- Open staircases to the roof
- Lockable doors where you need access
Materials
| Part | What we use |
|---|---|
| Net | Heavy-duty UV-stabilised HDPE or nylon |
| Border | Stainless-steel wire rope or heavy rope |
| Anchors | Stainless-steel eye bolts at close spacing |
| Edges | Fully closed to slab and walls |
On an open Guntur roof, UV stability matters as much as strength.
How we install
- Find how the monkeys get in: trees, walls, pipes or neighbouring roofs.
- Plan a fully closed enclosure, including the top.
- Fix heavy anchors.
- Tension the border tightly.
- Lace the net with extra ties at the top edge and corners.
- Add a lockable door if needed.
- Pull-test the net.
Is it pigeons or monkeys?
Droppings, feathers and twigs mean pigeons; a standard pigeon net is enough. Torn plants, missing fruit and opened windows mean monkeys, which need the heavier net. A heavy net with a small mesh stops both.
Reducing visits
Keep fruit, food and offerings indoors, close windows when you go out, keep bins covered and never feed monkeys.
Full details are on our monkey safety nets page. You may also like the guide on how to stop monkeys entering your home.
Netting part of a roof
Netting a whole flat roof can be costly. Frequently, a closed bay around the tank and washing line, with a door you can lock, does the whole job. Kitchen windows can be netted separately.
After the monsoon
On an open Guntur roof, these nets spend months in fierce sun and then take the full monsoon. After the rains, check for stretched sections and loose ties.
If monkeys stop coming
If monkeys visited only for a short spell and have moved on, a net may not be needed at all. Keeping food out of sight is often enough. Call us if they return regularly.
