Where racks go in Ongole homes
Upstairs balconies. A ceiling rack saves the trip to the roof.
Under roof sheets. Fixed rods or a wall rack give a covered spot that works in the rains.
Utility areas in flats. Concrete ceilings suit pulley racks; false ceilings need a wall rack.
Tenant floors. Owners often fit a rack so washing stays off railings.
Sizing
A couple usually needs three or four rods; a family of four, five or six. Larger families often use a balcony rack for everyday washing and roof rods for bedsheets.
What affects the price
- The type of rack
- The number and length of rods
- The ceiling or wall it’s fixed to
How we fit it
- Check the ceiling or wall.
- Agree the type and size.
- Fix the brackets level and clear of fans, lights and doors.
- Assemble the rack and test it loaded.
Looking after it
Wipe the rods now and then, check pulley ropes every few months and spread heavy items across several rods.

Which type should I choose?
If your balcony or utility area has a concrete ceiling within reach, a ceiling pulley rack holds the most and keeps the floor clear. If the space has a sheet roof, a false ceiling or a very high ceiling, choose a wall rack on a solid wall. Fixed rods under a roof sheet suit families who dry bedsheets and large loads.
Owners with tenants
Owners letting an upper floor often fit a rack on the tenants’ balcony, so washing stays off the railings and the roof.
Older relatives
A ceiling rack loads at waist height, and a wall rack opens at shoulder height. Either saves grandparents climbing to the roof with wet washing.
