Monkeys in Hyderabad
Monkey problems in Hyderabad are local. Some streets never see them; others have troops passing through every week, moving along trees, compound walls and rooftops. Signs that you need protection include:
- monkeys sitting on your balcony railing or terrace parapet
- fruit, vegetables or plants taken from the balcony
- kitchen windows pushed open
- damage to water tank lids, pipes and solar heaters on the terrace
Once monkeys learn that a home has food, they return. A net that completely closes the opening is the most reliable fix.
What we fit
- Kitchen and utility balconies, where food smells attract them
- Terrace areas around water tanks, solar heaters and clothes lines
- Open staircases leading up to the terrace
- Lockable access doors where you need to get through regularly
Materials
Heavy-duty UV-stabilised HDPE or nylon twine, far thicker than a bird net, with a stainless-steel wire rope or heavy rope border and stainless eye bolts at close spacing. The net is closed to the ceiling slab and wrapped at the sides so there is no route around it. UV stability matters on open terraces in Hyderabad’s summer.
Installation
We find the route the monkeys use, plan a fully closed enclosure, fix heavy anchors, tension the border tightly and lace the net with extra ties at the top edge and corners, where monkeys test first. We finish with a pull test.
Reducing visits
Keep fruit, grains and pet food indoors, close kitchen windows when you go out and never feed monkeys.

Where monkeys are seen in Hyderabad
Visits are most often reported in homes close to large green spaces, rocky hills and old tree-lined areas: neighbourhoods near big parks and campuses, the rocky slopes of the central hills, and the edges of the city where new building meets scrub land. In the dense middle of the city and in most high-rise towers, monkeys are rarely a problem.
If you are not sure whether you need a monkey net or a pigeon net, look at what is being damaged. Droppings and feathers mean pigeons. Torn plants, stolen fruit, opened windows and damaged tank lids mean monkeys. A pigeon net will not stop a monkey, so it is worth getting the choice right.
Where monkeys visit only occasionally, it may be enough to net the kitchen balcony and keep food out of sight. Where they come every day, the whole terrace or utility area should be enclosed.
