Hyderabad balconies and pigeons
The city’s towers and mid-rise blocks give pigeons thousands of quiet balconies, many of them used only in the evenings. Birds settle on the railing, then on top of the AC unit or behind flowerpots, and within weeks there is a nest. Balconies on upper floors in the western suburbs are especially popular with birds because they are high, quiet and sheltered.
Planning the net
We look at how you use the balcony before deciding the line of the net:
- Washing. Hangers and stands inside the balcony keep working because the net sits on the outer edge.
- AC units. The fan is kept clear and an opening can be added for technicians.
- Plants. We leave a little space between leaves and the net.
- Cleaning the outer glass. A zip or hook-off panel gives you access without cutting the net.
Materials for Hyderabad
Long hours of strong sunshine make UV-stabilised mesh essential, particularly on west- and south-facing balconies. We use transparent or black nets, a tensioned border and stainless hooks so that rain does not leave rust marks on walls. Where sparrows or mynas also visit, a smaller mesh keeps them out too.
The fitting
Hooks go in along the slab edge, side walls and parapet; the border is tensioned; the net is tied closely with no gaps at the corners. A single balcony is usually finished in a few hours.

Balcony nets in different parts of Hyderabad
Western towers. On the upper floors of Gachibowli, Kokapet and Nallagandla, balconies are wide and often have glass railings. The net is fixed to the slab, side walls and railing base, and kept transparent so the view stays open.
Builder flats. In Kukatpally, Manikonda and Nizampet, balconies are smaller and often face the next building. Birds treat them as a sheltered ledge, so a full net is the only reliable fix.
Older central flats. In Ameerpet, Begumpet and Secunderabad, older balconies may already have iron grills. We fix the net just inside or outside the grill, whichever is neater.
In all cases the net is tied closely at the corners, because that is where birds get back in if the fitting is careless.
Before the visit
It helps to note where the birds land most: the railing, the top of the AC unit, behind flowerpots or the ceiling corners. Send us a photo or two on WhatsApp, and tell us whether you need an opening for cleaning the outside glass or servicing the AC.
